The Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) published on the 12th of this month a decree concerning the "exceptional and temporary restriction on the entry into the country of foreigners of any nationality, as recommended by the National Health Surveillance Agency – Anvisa."“

According to the text of Ordinance No. 518, the technical and substantiated recommendation of Anvisa (Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency) was considered "for sanitary reasons related to the risks of contamination and dissemination of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID-19)", thus restricting "the entry into the country of foreigners of any nationality, by highways, by other land means or by waterway transport, for a period of thirty days". The measure has been in effect since its publication date (November 12, 2020).

Entry is permitted for foreign professionals on assignment for an international organization or transporting cargo, immigrants with permanent residency in Brazilian territory, Brazilian citizens (native-born or naturalized), and the transit of border residents in twin cities, upon presentation of supporting documentation, provided that reciprocity is guaranteed to Brazilians by the neighboring country, among other situations that can be found in the Official Gazette.

Land transit between Brazil and Paraguay is not prohibited, "provided that the migratory requirements appropriate to their status are met, including holding an entry visa, when required by Brazilian law."“

It appears that the second wave of Covid-19 infections has put the entire world on alert. In Europe, the number of infections and deaths has once again increased rapidly, forcing several countries to announce new protective measures. The situation in our country is no different.
