According to news reports, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service seized 42 tons of counterfeit goods at the Port of Santos. The majority of the cargo consisted of toys of various types and brands, as well as speakers. The goods were valued at R$ 7,973,226.55.

However, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service emphasizes that the entry of these products into the Brazilian market is serious, negatively impacting the economy, in addition to infringing intellectual property rights, creating unfair competition, causing loss of revenue, reducing investments, and contributing to unemployment.

“"Such products also violate consumer protection laws and may endanger the health and safety of consumers.".

According to Michel Pereira, a lawyer at the DB Tesser firm, whenever the Customs Authority encounters products bearing a trademark, it may retain such products to verify their authenticity, as well as the legitimacy of the importer, to determine if they have authorization from the trademark holder for their importation and commercialization. 

The Customs Authority shall notify the trademark holder so that they may respond within 10 (ten) working days regarding the authenticity of the products and the legality of the import.
