Among the products that will have a zero tax rate are Medications, personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks, and hospital equipment such as ventilators.

The measure is provided for in Ministry of Economy Ordinance No. 158, of April 15, 2020, published today (April 16) in the Official Gazette of the Union.

The decree was issued so that products shipped under the Simplified Taxation Regime, which applies to postal shipments and air freight, would receive the same treatment as goods dispatched through traditional Import Declarations.

The Simplified Taxation regime normally provides for the application of the 60% (sixty percent) Import Tax rate on the value of the goods, regardless of the tariff classification of the goods that make up the shipment or order, and will be reduced to 0%.

This measure will benefit, for example, a large quantity of products donated by people from various parts of the world and components necessary for the production of artificial respirators.

In times like these, it is of utmost importance to have legal and technical advice regarding the care and attention given to issues faced daily in international trade.
