In order to combat various harmful practices against users of maritime ports, both for long-distance and coastal shipping, USUPORT-RJ (Association of Users of Rio de Janeiro) decided to create an ombudsman channel to receive various complaints and reports, which will help in combating practices that have been hindering the smooth functioning of international trade.
It is important to note that complaints are confidential, with no disclosure of the complainants' names, and membership in the association is not required to file a complaint.
The main objective of this ombudsman channel is precisely to bring to light harmful conduct., assisting ANTAQ (National Agency for Waterway Transportation), as well as external control bodies, such as the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF), with their due investigation and oversight.
It is known that Antaq Resolution No. 18/2017 has been in effect for 2 (two) years, but, according to the president of the Association, there is still much to be monitored regarding maritime transport, especially concerning maritime carriers, particularly foreign ones, and also intermediaries.
Those interested in submitting new complaints may send them to the email address provided. ouvidoria@usuportrj.org.
According to USUPORT-RJ, by the end of the first week of March, it intends to submit at least two complaints to the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts), so that the so-called container demurrage (demurrage), In addition to surcharges, currency exchanges, and other operations that cause harm to users, these should be immediately monitored and regularly enforced.
Therefore, such complaints tend to guarantee users of shipping greater legal security and quality in the service and use of maritime ports, enabling the transport of goods and speeding up procedures.
