Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to severely affect the country and the world, the Ministry of Economy has extended the due dates for installments administered by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service and the Attorney General's Office of the National Treasury that were due in May, June, and July 2020.

The new measure, which offers some relief to taxpayers, is outlined in Ministry of Economy Ordinance No. 201, dated May 11, 2020, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on May 12, and stipulates that installments of ordinary and special payment plans will be extended as follows, always on the last business day of the respective month:

a) Bills due in May 2020 will have their due dates extended to August 2020;

b) those due in June 2020 will have their due date extended to October 2020; and

(c) Bills due in July 2020 will have their due dates extended to December 2020.

This extension does not currently apply to installment plans under the Simples Nacional regime, as this decision falls under the jurisdiction of the Simples Nacional Management Committee.

The committee is scheduled to meet on May 15th to discuss extending these payment plans.

The Federal Revenue Service and the Attorney General's Office for the National Treasury will adopt procedures to suspend the payment of installments for those taxpayers who make payments through automatic debit from their bank current account.
